The moment when you bite into the perfect chocolate covered strawberry is pure bliss.

Their bright red color and shape are reminiscent of little hearts. And when you cover them in chocolate, the flavor combination is off the charts.

The one and only drawback to Chocolate Covered Strawberries is that they are often quite expensive. If you are a budget-conscious person, you will be happy to know that these decadent treats are super easy to make.

All you need are some strawberries and dark chocolate chips and you can whip up a batch of amazing Chocolate Covered Strawberries for much less. Not only that, it puts the creative control in your hands. And everyone knows how much more meaningful homemade gifts can be.

Tips for making Chocolate Covered Strawberries

I definitely recommend adding a little coconut oil or other fat to your melted chocolate. This helps to smooth out your chocolate so it looks nice when it sets.

And don’t be afraid to decorate your strawberries when you make them. They are delicious either way – but decorating is just a lot of fun. Drizzle on some melted white chocolate or dip some of them in sprinkles to make them look extra festive.

If you’re feeling creative and want your strawberries to match a color scheme, like for a wedding, you may also use candy melts or white chocolate to cover the strawberries. You may tint the white chocolate with gel food coloring, or purchase candy melts in the desired color.

Chocolate Covered Strawberries are a wonderful way to say “I love you!” Perfect for Valentine’s Day, anniversaries, or as a sweet surprise for your beloved on date night, these things are so yummy, you may even want to whip up a batch all for yourself, too!

Ingredients to make Chocolate Covered Strawberries:

  • 1 lb strawberries
  • 1 cup dark chocolate chips
  • 1 Tablespoon coconut oil or shortening, optional

How to Make Chocolate Covered Strawberries:

  1. Line a clean surface (a cookie sheet or cutting board) with parchment paper and set aside.
  2. Wash and dry your strawberries. It is very important that your strawberries are dry so they don’t make the chocolate “break” and go clumpy.
  3. Melt the chocolate in 25 second bursts in the microwave, stirring in between each reheating.
  4. Add a bit of chocolate oil or shortening if your chocolate is not smooth.
  5. Holding the green stem of the strawberry, roll your strawberry in melted chocolate and then place it on your prepared surface.

You want to make sure that your strawberry is coated in the chocolate as evenly as possible. Depending on the depth of your container, you may need to roll the strawberry a bit.
  6. Let the strawberries set completely before serving or packaging.
  7. You can add sprinkles or drizzle on some white chocolate for effect.
