Honey is one of the easiest ways to save money online. What is it exactly? It is a browser extension. You add it to your toolbar to use when you are shopping online.

You may be familiar with using promo and discount codes. If so, you may also know that it can take some time to search for a promo code if you haven’t been provided with one. It’s worth doing as it can save you money, but oftentimes, many of the coupon sites that offer promo codes don’t make it easy to find ones that will work. You may have to jump through some hoops to get the code. Now you don’t have to do that anymore.

How does Honey work?

Honey can save you money using discount codes when you shop online.

Honey can save you money using discount codes when you shop online.

Honey makes this easy for you by taking the pain of the search away. Here’s how it works.

You install the browser extension on your computer. When you do this, you will see a small gray icon with the letter “h” in the upper right-hand corner of your toolbar. On my computer, it is to the right of the search bar.

When you are shopping online, use Honey at check out. When the site asks you if you have a promo or discount code, click on the Honey icon, and several opportunities will be displayed in a small pop-up. You can sort through the ones that you are most interested in or best apply to your purchase. Honey also indicates the success rate of these promo codes too.  This is important so that you know not to waste your time on a promo code with a low success rate.

Not every promo code will work. Some codes have restrictions such as a minimum purchase or a purchase of a specific item. So be sure to try another code if the first one you select doesn’t work out.  It does not take long to do this at all.

I recently used the extension to plan a hotel stay. I was traveling to visit my hometown. The nearest airport is over an hour away and our arrival was well after midnight. I needed a hotel. Honey saved me 15% off my hotel. That was a more competitive rate than what I found with AAA!  I was so pleased to get a discount on my accommodations, particularly since I would only be in the hotel for a few hours.

How do I sign up to save money with Honey?

Sign up is simple. Visit Honey here to sign up to get your browser extension. When you do, you’ll see a landing page that even has my smiling face on it.  That’s because this is my referral page.  Honey offers you the ability to refer others to their service. It’s a great way to save money, and it’s possible to earn money with it as well.

Honey is pretty terrific! I hope you’ll sign up and start saving some money!

You had me in with the heading, Jennifer – I was intrigued with the idea of using honey to save money. Sounds like a very handy tool though and anything that can save us money has to be good, right?

Honey for food, yum. Honey for discounts, double yum! I almost always do a search for a coupon code before making purchases online. I waste a ton of time going through codes that don’t work, so this will be a huge time saver. Thank you for letting me know about this app!

Sounds like a fabulous way to save money! My first thought was is it only used with Google Chrome and does it cover the Canadian market too? If I can use it with any browser and it is Canadian friendly, I am all in for it, Jennifer! Thanks for sharing how to save money with honey…great brand name too!

Wow, I never had any idea.. that is pretty cool so you aren’t doing a separate search for xyz promo codes and they trying them all out to failure. How long have you used this… beneficial this far or just like pennies?

I’ve been using it for over 6 months now, and I’ve saved quite a bit. I haven’t actually tallied it, but I’m often able to find promo codes that work for as much as 25%. It really adds up over time. I can’t always find a promo code that fits what I’m purchasing just right, but I have luck about 4 out of 5 times with it.

This looks great, Jennifer! I currently have the Ebates extension and have been using that a lot. I’m guessing I’ll have to choose one or the other to use.
