Nightride by Tinashe
It’s incredible how aptly named this new album from Tinashe is. It’s perfect to spin if you are taking a drive down a lonely highway with the windows cracked thinking about your misspent youth or that one that got away. Then again it’s also good for another type of night ride, if you know what I mean (insert winky emoji here).
The album starts off with “Lucid Dreaming” which is as ethereal as one might imagine. But the lyrics prove to be far stronger than the dreamy melody. Tinashe sings, “If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that it’s up to me,” and “If it’s my life, ain’t nobody gonna tell me how to live it.” We’re with you sister friend.
“C’est la Vie,” “Sunburn” and “Spacetime” all utilize a similar tranquil sound.
She kicks it up with “Sacrifices” and “Company” where her lyrics get sexier (“It’s not my M.O. to fall in love, but fucking around with me is dangerous,”) and she drums up the bass.
The Verdict
An unexpected pleasure? “You Don’t Know Me” is riddled with lyrics played in reverse. Is it weird? A little. But somehow it works.

So sorry for the super late reply. But thank you so much! I have definitely been playing this album to wind down with a glass of wine. She’s had a long road. But her career is definitely headed in the right direction.
