Lakuta is a 10-piece ensemble
Lakuta is a 10-piece ensemble made up of musicians from all over the world and fronted by Kenyan-Tanzanian singer Siggi Mwasote.
Their music is like ear candy. You can clearly hear the Afrobeat and Latin sounds. But if I were to categorize their genre, it would be a mix of Fela Kuti and Manhattan Transfer. They serve jazz, drums and brass and it’s magical.
In addition to being sonically alluring, the group takes on social issues like in their titular single, “Bata Boy,” which talks about the persecution of gay men.
Listening to this album literally put a smile on my face and made me get up and dance.
Score: 4.7 out of 5
Must Listens: “Lose Yourself” & “Rice & Peace”
