When you are on the lookout for foods that inspire you to sing silly songs, these Baby Shark Cupcakes should be at the top of your list. These cupcakes are the perfect treat for shark-themed parties (for adults and kids alike). Or whip up a batch to serve to your friends when you all get together for Shark Week. And you know that if you surprise your kids with Baby Shark Cupcakes when they get home from school, you’ll be the hero of your family!

The cool thing with these cupcakes is that it is all about the decoration. You can make cupcakes from scratch or from a box – your choice. (Heck, I suppose you could even buy cupcakes and re-do the icing if you wanted. I won’t tell!) You just need to make your icing pretty – in shades of blue and purple and white to mimic the colors of the ocean. Add some fish sprinkles to remind your Baby Shark that “fish are friends, not food”, and then tuck in a little shark fin that you make with some black fondant. So cute and so easy!

Personally, I’d love to see someone put together a shark-themed pool party for adults. Set up a screen outdoors to watch the Jaws movies while everyone floats in the swimming pool. Maybe barbecue some shark steaks on the grill and serve some Shark Bite Shots to go with them. And these Baby Shark Cupcakes, of course. Doesn’t that sound like fun?

The great thing about this recipe is that you can make these super fun cupcakes with very little effort. You can make the cupcakes from your favorite recipe or from a box (no judging here). Or you can even pick up some cupcakes at the supermarket’s bakery with vanilla frosting and scrape off the icing to give them a quick decorating job.

Because it’s the decorating that makes these cupcakes so much fun. You may even find yourself singing a bit of doo doo doo… No one will know how easy it is.

How to make and decorate Baby Shark Cupcakes

  1. Make cupcakes according to the instructions.
  2. Add about ½ cup each color frosting to its own piping bag. Snip the end off the piping bags. Prepare a fourth piping bag with the open star tip. Slide the three other piping bags into the fourth and twist the open ends to force the frosting down into the tip.  3 colors of icing added to piping bags on a marble counter
  3. Pipe frosting over cupcake in a circular direction working from the inside of the cupcake towards the outer circle and back to the middle to create a peak.  3 cupcakes with blue, white and purple frosting piped in a swirl on a marble surface
  4. Roll fondant flat and cut into triangles. Press one triangle into each cupcake at the peak of the frosting.  Black fondant rolled on marble and cut into triangles with a knife
